What should I expect from an executive or career coach?

Every executive and career coach will work with you in different ways. Here's what you could expect.

If we work together to help you identify and achieve your career goals, you can expect the following: Guy Ellis | Career coach outcomes

Career Review: We will spend time assessing your strengths, weaknesses, values, and interests. This might include going through your CV to help you gain insight into your career choices and preferences.

Setting your career goals: Based on your review, we will work together to set achievable career goals. Depending upon your need, these could be a combination of short and longer term objectives, and they will be SMART - specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound – as well as align with your values and interests.

Create an action plan: Once we’ve identified your career goals, I’ll help you create a plan to achieve them. This plan may include identifying the skills you need to develop, researching knowledge, networking strategies, and job search techniques.

Accountability: I will then hold you accountable for following through on your career plan. If appropriate, we will have regular check-in’s to ensure that you are making progress toward your goals.

Feedback and support: I will also give you feedback on your performance, communication skills, and other aspects of your career development. They will help you identify areas for improvement and provide strategies for overcoming obstacles. In addition, I’ll provide you with emotional support and encouragement to help you stay motivated and focused on achieving your goals.

Resources: As appropriate, I’ll provide you with resources such as job search databases, interview preparation materials, and networking opportunities.

My role is to provide you with guidance and support to help you achieve your career goals. Your role is to come with an open mind and commit to implementing the actions agreed between us. The more that you are willing to put into the programme, the more you will get out of it.
